illustration art & design
My name is Nina and I grew up in Stockholm. I am Swedish by birth with extended family in England and Russia. I moved to London in 1996 and graduated in Set and Costume Design at Wimbledon School of Art.
Over thirteen years in London I successfully established my career as Visual Merchandise Manager at a number of luxury retail brands, including the prestigious Burberry, Asprey and De Beers Diamond Jewellers. My role involved formulating marketing strategies, organising promotional events and designing store layouts and global window display concepts.
Today I work freelance within illustration, art and design. I have continued to enhance and expand my creative abilities by completing a Diploma in Illustration for Children's Books, gaining a mark of Distinction. I followed this by taking a Collagraphy Printmaking Course. Both courses were truly inspiring, immensely fulfilling and I hope to combine them in my own publication.
My illustrative work is a combination of free hand drawing and watercolour which I produce on a carefully selected background material. My method provides an opportunity for a diverse spectrum of detail with vibrant colour, which creates highly expressive yet light pieces, with depth and movement. Each commission has the ability to be an original interpretation and be uniquely purposeful.
I particularly adore the early 20th centrury children's books by Swedish author and illustrator Elsa Beskow. My other influences include the theatrical art of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, the abstract wallpaper and fabric designs by Tibor Reich and the avant-garde schemes of Roberto Burle Marx. I also enjoy the amazing contemporary dance productions of Wang Ramirez.
I am excited about what the future can bring and the wonderful opportunities, big or small that can transpire.
